Audition Information
In order to be considered for admission all applicants must perform an audition, either in person or via recording.
Live Auditions
Applicants must contact the Bel Canto Company office at 336-333-2220 or via e-mail to schedule an audition. We will hear live auditions on the following three days:
- Wednesday, February 24, 2010, beginning at 3:30 PM
Northwest Guilford High School - Saturday, February 27, 2010, beginning at 11:00 AM
Guilford College - Choir Room - Auditions previously scheduled for Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Southwest Guilford High School have been canceled. Please plan to audition on one of the alternate dates.
Recorded Auditions
Unable to audition live? You also have the option to submit a recorded audtion in lieu of a live audition. Recordings will receive equal consideration for admission. The deadline for receipt of recorded auditions is February, 26, 2010.
Repertoire Requirements
Applicants should be prepared to sing their part with accompaniment for each of the following:
- Haydn: Lord Nelson Mass (Kyrie) - measures 116-128
- Haydn: Lord Nelson Mass (Pleni sunt coeli) - measures 13-28
- Whitacre: Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine - measures 58-80
Each of these excerpts, as well as rehearsal recordings are now available for download for your use in preparation for the audition. Applicants will be expected to sing their vocal line with a recorded accompaniment CD (to be provided by Bel Canto Company) for the audition.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING A RECORDED AUDITION
Please read carefully prior to submitting your recording.
- Download the audition selections and accompaniment recording from our website (www.belcantocompany.com).
- Select your recording media. Acceptable media include compact disc and MP3 files. We cannont accept cassette tapes, minidiscs, video tapes or DAT tapes.
- Record your audition using the accompaniment recording from our website. Use high quality media. Recordings that have been edited or enhanced will be disqualified.
- Label your recording:

We will receive over a hundred recordings, so it is essential that you label your recording clearly and submit it prior to February 26 for proper consideration. All recordings become the property of Bel Canto Company and will not be returned.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING MP3 FILES TO BEL CANTO COMPANY VIA THE INTERNET
- Go to http://www.mediafire.com.
- Click on "Upload to MediaFire™" (you can use this service without creating an account)
- Before you begin uploading your files, please see the instructions for Labeling Your Audition Files below.
- Select the file on your computer that you want to upload and click the "Open" button.
- Click the "Begin Uploading Files" button.
- Once the upload has been verified, click "Go to My Files".
- Click on the "Share" button to the right of your file and select "Share by Email".
- Enter your email address (if not already listed), the email address for Bel Canto Company (info@belcantocompany.com) and click "Send Link".
INSTRUCTIONS FOR LABELING YOUR MP3 AUDITION FILES
Please use the following format when naming your audition files. Do not use spaces when naming your files; use underscores ("_").
Label Format: lastname_firstname_voicepart_composer.mp3
Example: smith_jane_sop_haydn.mp3
The following abbreviations should be used to identify your voice part:
Soprano = sop, Alto = alt, Tenor = ten, Bass = bas
You may upload files up to 100 MB in size. Uploading larger files requires the purchase of a subscription. If you upload each piece/excerpt separately, you should not exceed the size limit.
