The Choral Arts Collective

IN TIME OF STRIFE

Welborn Young, Artistic DirectorBel Canto Company, the Piedmont’s premier choral ensemble offers a performance that is uplifting and humorous but also heartrending.  More than a backdrop to our lives, thoughtful, beautiful music can reveal truths about human nature we had not yet realized.

In this concert that celebrates endurance and transformation, Bel Canto brings us the broad spectrum of emotion, and human experience in music about war, forgiveness, praise and love in times of adversity. Selections include: Veljis Tormis’s Curse Upon Iron, Arvo Part’s Berliner Messe, and music by Gerald Finzi, Craig Hella Johnson, Mack Wilberg, Moses Hogan, Morten Lauridsen and more.

Both performances of In Time of Strife are at First Presbyterian Church. Here’s some important information:

Concert Entrance: We encourage all concert-goers to enter through the Greene Street doors on the Greene Street side of the church. There will be signs and volunteers to point you in the right direction. You may also enter through the new Welcome Center near the corner of Elm Street and Florence Street. However, you will have to find your way through the facility to the Box Office and Sanctuary. If you’re not familiar with FPC, we recommend entering from Greene Street. DO NOT plan to enter through the front of the church on Florence Street. Those doors will not be used as a concert entrance, although you may be able to exit through them after the concert.
Parking: There are a variety of parking options at First Presbyterian Church. Parking is available:
  1. Along Greene Street south of Florence Street. The spaces immediately in front of the Greene Street Entrance will be reserved for handicapped parking.
  2. In the angled spaces on Florence Street, between Greene and Elm Streets.
  3. On Florence Street, west of Greene Street.
  4. On Fischer Park Circle north of Florence Street.
  5. In the Downtown Fitness lot across Elm Street.
Box Office:  The box office will be located in the Virginia Gilmore Room (behind the Sanctuary). The easiest way to get there is to enter from the Greene Street doors on the west side of the church. We will have ushers stationed there to point you in the right direction. We will begin selling tickets one hour before each performance. You may also pickup will-call tickets from the box office beginning at the same time.
