Bach's SillouhetteOur 35th Anniversary Season opens with a concert for chorus and orchestra celebrating the finest composer in the history of Western music, Johann Sebastian Bach.

Bach’s influence on the development of music can hardly be overstated. Not only are his compositions still performed today, nearly 300 years later, but countless composers learned their craft by studying his music, arranged melodies he originally composed, and developed their unique styles by “breaking” his musical “rules” (rules which he himself often flaunted to great effect!).

Ask nearly any professional musician who the greatest musical genius of all time was, and time and again the answer will be, without hesitation, “Bach.” We hope you will join us for this spectacular start to our 35th season of beautiful singing.

Program:

“Jauchzet, frohlocket” (“Celebrate, rejoice” – BWV 248-1) from Weihnachts-Oratorium (Christmas Oratorio)

Kantata 80: Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott (Our God is a secure fortress – BWV 80)

Intermission

Kantata 191: Gloria in excelsis Deo (Glory to God in the Highest – BWV 191)

A Mighty Fortress is Our God (arr. Dan Forrest)

Arrive early for a free tour of Ebenezer Lutheran Church’s artistic treasures.

Back by popular demand, Norman Smith will lead a discussion of Ebenezer’s growing collection, including Lawrence Heyda’s copy of Rogier van der Weyden’s masterful “Descent from the Cross,” an illuminated Gutenberg Bible and more. The discussions will begin 45-minutes before each performance. Join us!
